One photograph album containing 12 black and white, salted paper prints. Photographed by G.R. Fardon and published in 1865, the images are considered the earliest published photographic record of an American city. Photographs document the development of downtown San Francisco. Photographs primarily document churches and fire houses in San Francisco.

Content Description Consists of photos showing damage to identified buildings and streets in San Francisco, Calif., following the 1906 earthquake and fire. Buildings depicted include City Hall, Jackson Brewery, St. John church, Poodle Dog restaurant, Hale Bros., Lick Baths, St. Ignatius church, Tivoli Theater, U.S. Mint, Grand Hotel, Palace Hotel, Temple Emanu-El, California Pioneers, Call Building, and the Emporium. Scope and Contents

Mostly images of Yosemite and San Francisco. There are also views of the Farallone Islands (i.e., Farallon Islands), Mono Lake, Devil's Tea Kettle at Geyser Springs, and various images of the Central Pacific Railroad. Includes one photo of Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, Utah.
