Elsie Burr's correspondence during trip to Europe, 1904-1905
Scope and Contents
Correspondence consists of letters belonging to both the Burr and Allyne families, the bulk of the letters comprising Elsie Burr’s correspondence to friends and family from 1904 to 1930, and between Elsie and her husband Harry Overstreet documenting their courtship, married life, and divorce. This series contains the correspondence of Alice and Marian Burr, chronicling their extensive travels in Asia and Africa in 1929-1930; a small but valuable collection of letters detailing the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire and its impact on the city and the Burr-Allyne family; and correspondence between John W. Allyne and Jane L. Stanford regarding the Leland Stanford Junior Kindergarten Trust, including bylaws and other papers related to the organization. Finally the series includes one letter to Harry Overstreet signed by playwright Eugene O'Neill.
